Playa Escondida was built entirely new in 2016, the youngest community in our New Mexico family, and it earned the U.S. Green Building Council's highest home rating, LEED Platinum, when it was finished. Sixty two- and three-bedroom homes face a green courtyard on the east side of Hobbs, with rents kept below market through the tax-credit program. Housing Choice Vouchers are welcome.

Playa Escondida is the newest community in our family, designed and built from the ground up in 2016. Modern floor plans, modern materials, and modern efficiency, with nothing carried over from an older era.
Platinum is the highest rating the U.S. Green Building Council awards a home. Here it means tight, well-insulated construction that keeps the summer heat out, the winter warmth in, and utility bills down.
The buildings are set to work with the Lea County sun instead of fighting it: shaded in the hottest hours, warmed by the low winter light. Comfort that is built in, not bolted on.
The community takes its name from the playas, the shallow desert basins of Lea County that catch the rain. Its permeable parking areas work the same way, letting stormwater soak into the ground where it falls instead of running off.
Playa Escondida is the newest member of a New Mexico family of green-built affordable communities reaching from Taos to Hobbs, with certifications from Enterprise Green Communities to LEED Platinum.

Playa Escondida sits on the east side of Hobbs at Yeso Drive and Jefferson Street, with Bel Aire shopping close enough to walk, Broadmoor Mall minutes away, and the CORE recreation center straight up Jefferson.

Everyone is welcome to apply. Playa Escondida is a mixed-income affordable community, so eligibility comes down to household income and size, never age. Call the office with a rough idea of your monthly income and we can usually tell you the same day whether your household qualifies.
Current program rents run from $798 to $1,338 per month for a two bedroom, depending on the layout and your household's income tier, and start at $709 for a three bedroom. Rent is a fixed amount, not a percentage of your income. Program rents adjust from time to time, so please call to confirm today's exact rate and availability.
Household income must fall below limits that HUD sets each year for Lea County. The limits depend on how many people live with you and they change annually, and because Playa Escondida is a mixed-income community, different homes carry different limits. The surest way to know is one quick call with a rough idea of your monthly income.
